Course Objectives |
The course establishes a cultural context for the understanding of English language and literature. Students will learn about and discuss various aspects of British culture. They will analyze the social, cultural, economic and historical phenomena that contributed to the formation of British identity. They will have an opportunity to discuss these characteristics of British culture individually and in small groups during in-class activities. Based on their shared knowledge and on their individual research, students will write their response in form of essays. The course will improve the students' overall oral, writing and collaborative skills. It will also contribute to the development of intercultural sensitivity and awareness, using the English language as the medium of interaction. |

Learning Outcomes |
After successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: |
- Identify values, behaviour, national traditions, customs and other features characteristic for British culture
- Demonstrate knowledge of of basic terms and concepts in relation to the British political, economic, legal and educational systems
- Use appropriate terminology and concepts to discuss cultural values, behaviour, traditions and other aspects of British culture as an individual or as part of a team
- Write an essay to demonstrate cultural knowledge and skills
- Employ acquired knowledge and skills to compare the British with other world cultures, in particular the culture of the student's background and communicate what has been learned
